Earth Scouts / Consumption Management US

Dear Friends,

I write on behalf of The Center for American Studies to introduce Earth~Scouts 2020™ and Consumption Management US.

Earth~Scouts 2020is a youth movement that works in close conjunction with our schools and kindred youth organizations that is open to any and all children, who wish to ease the burdens that we have placed on our earth.

Consumption Management US (before it becomes waste) is an educational enterprise network, which has as its aim to help seed new community-based and owned enterprises, dedicated to strengthening our local communities by caring for our environment and the resources that have been entrusted to us. In brief. The accompanying Earth~Scouts letter tells the fuller story.

Earth~Scouts 2020™ & Consumption Management US are twin fruits of the 1990 international “Walden Earthcare Congress” held at Walden Pond and in Concord, Massachusetts. As community-based educational initiatives, we have 3 goals:

1) Beginning in NH, to help households across America save precious dollars, time and energy, by addressing one of the central issues of our day: the management of not just our waste, but our often wasteful consumption. The need is considerable. On the average every home in America can cut their energy costs 50 – 75%. By so getting our “house in order,” America will turn from a net energy importer (billions of dollars per year), to a energy exporter in all senses of the word, as follows.

2) To engage our youth in constructive activities that can energize/inspire them to take a leadership role with respect to environmental and related community issues.

3) To promote an ethic of responsible stewardship of our resources/environment, which, as with the growing concern over climate changes, will be key to our future on and with the earth.

We look forward to achieving these goals by catalyzing the growing public awareness of the need not only for renewable energy resources, but (through environmentally safe, sound, and energy-efficient products) for addressing what is increasingly recognized as the root of the challenge: conservation itself.

With our children as forerunners, we are confident that the Earth~Scouts 2020™ program has the potential to complement one of the fastest growing industries in our time, waste management. As nearly every community today has a waste management center — otherwise referred to as a dump or recycling center — our goal by the year 2020 is to support the establishment of consumption management™ “centers,” growing out of households in every state across our land.

By so tending to business at home, Earth~Scouts 2020™ has the potential not only to engage our youth (our most precious non-renewable resource) in promoting an ethic of responsible stewardship of our environment, but, thereby, to provide a solid foundation for addressing the growing economic and social challenges facing our nation today.

Indeed, few issues are as central to our fortunes as the “energy” issue. Empowered by such a cause, our youth can, and will, play a major role in revitalizing the lives of our families, communities, and civilization.

If you recognize the vision of Earth~Scouts 2020™, we invite you to join us as a partner, contributing in ways you feel best toward the achievement of the above goals. I thank you for your consideration and look forward to following up this letter with a call in the next days to discuss your potential involvement.
